Cops, Coffee, Community, and Conversation

This is how the very successful "Coffee with a Cop" program has been described - an event hosted by the Bellevue Police Department to provide an informal and relaxed way to bring the police and community together to discuss and share community issues; establish and build relationships; and create a better understanding of the needs and concerns residents have - the framework of successful and positive community policing. Three get-togethers have been held by the Police Department so far at Tully's, Top Pot, and Starbucks locations, with a goal to continue to organize more gatherings on a quarterly basis. "Coffee with a Cop" is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing by improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
