Captain John McCracken
Bellevue Police Department
Captain McCracken grew up in the city of Bellevue and graduated from Newport High School. He later graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He started with the Bellevue Police Department in February of 1986 as a dispatcher, and later worked as a Police Support Officer. Captain McCracken became a commissioned police officer in August of 1988, and worked in Patrol, in the Special Details Unit, as a field training officer, and then as a detective on the Eastside Narcotics Task Force. He was promoted to Corporal in 1998, and then to Lieutenant in 2000.
After his tour as a Patrol Lieutenant, Captain McCracken transferred to the Traffic section supervising the motor unit and was the special event coordinator for the police department. He was promoted to Captain in April of 2012, and helped oversee the Patrol division. In 2014, Captain McCracken was transferred to the Traffic Section, and later the Investigations Section, where he now works. He is also the commander of the SWAT Team as well as the Hostage Negotiation Team. Captain McCracken recently celebrated 30 years of working for the Bellevue Police Department, which is an accomplishment he is very proud of.
In his free time, Captain McCracken enjoys motorcycling, boating, and spending time with his wife and 911 dispatcher, Becky.
